The growth in UK broiler numbers took a pause last month after starting the year with some strong expansion.

Day-old chick placings in March were unchanged from the same month last year, at 91.3m.

This means that even as one of the UK’s leading producers completed its transition to the new 30kg /sq m stocking density (see Avara story), enough capacity was still being found across the industry to maintain chick placings at the same level as last year.
